yo estaba recién llegado al Uruguay y extrañaba a mi esposa y a mis dos hijos, cuando dice:

Que es una bella y larga canción de un hombre que renace nuevamente como un Ave Fénix de sus cenizas y vuelve, ya habiéndose perdonado a sí mismo y a su familia, a una vida más tranquila donde los excesos del pasado quedaban atrás. Extremedamente lírica.

ROCKET MAN, LA PELÍCULA.
Cuando era un niño había un local frente a casa donde vendían licuados o batidos de frutas. Tenían un traga niquel o rocola junto al mostrador donde entre mucha musica cubana me atraían dos discos: Bill Halley y sus Cometas. Me hacía saltar de regocijo el "Rock around the Clock" y otra que nunca he vuelto a escuchar. Yo pedía 20 centavos a mi madre y en lugar de tomarme un buen licuado refrescante, echaba 5 centavos para escuchar aquel Rock'n'Roll, que por instinto me parecía la mejor música del mundo.
Los años pasaron, Fidel intervino todo tipo de negocio privado y la rocola desapareció como por arte de magia. Los dueños emigraron a Miami. Nunca supe qué fue de aquel aparato ni quién era aquel grupo musical que tocaba aquella música maravillosa y mágica.
Llegó mi adolescencia y entonces apareció el británico Elton John y todo cambió.
Los años pasaron, Fidel intervino todo tipo de negocio privado y la rocola desapareció como por arte de magia. Los dueños emigraron a Miami. Nunca supe qué fue de aquel aparato ni quién era aquel grupo musical que tocaba aquella música maravillosa y mágica.
Llegó mi adolescencia y entonces apareció el británico Elton John y todo cambió.
Elton John fue nuestro ídolo de los estudiantes del Pre Universitario Rubén Batista, que escuchábamos la emisora radial americana AFRTS y así nos impregnábamos del Rock’n’roll inglés y de USA cuando la radio cubana no pasaba ninguna de esas canciones.
La película que acabo de ver en Punta Shopping me decepcionó. El actor escogido, con una nariz fruto de la cirugía plástica, las canciones famosas de Elton John interpretadas malamente por el actor que yo esperaba al menos fueran las originales del cantante y escritas con los poemas en prosa de Bernie Taupin, su eterno colaborador, me dejaron un gusto amargo en la boca. Solo es un despliegue de disfraces estrafalarios que siempre deslumbran a los jóvenes de cualquier época y que eran una exageración de la ropa que Liberace, el pianista homosexual que murió de SIDA, y que Elton John sabía del efecto en la muchedumbre.
La primera vez que escuché la voz de Elton John fue en la película TOMMY de The Who. Aparecía un joven delgado, de pelo caoba enrulado y largo, corriendo de espalda sobre bombas que explotaban en derredor y cantando una canción de fondo: "Saturday night's all Right" de Elton John. Yo me quedé con la imagen de aquel joven atlético pensando que era el mismo Elton. Era el cantante de The Who, Roger Harry Daltrey.
Después vino la Canción “Daniel” que me recordaba a mi joven hermano recién fallecido- que tuve que sacar del Instituto de Neurología del Hospital de la Habana. Parecía una canción más de amor homosexual pero estaba dirigida a un amigo veterano que quedó ciego de la guerra de Vietnam. De ahí saco las frases.

Y cuando llegué al Uruguay compré un casete de Elton John con una selección de sus mejores títulos y un Walk Man para escucharla cuando el trabajo lo permitía.
Entonces vi en la carátula de la caja que Elton John era un joven pasado de libras, una cara triste que deseaba ocultar tras unos lentes Gigantes. No fue una gran decepción. Era un gran cantante. Hizo una fortuna vendiendo millones de sus discos y en sus giras: lleno total.
Me aprendí todas las canciones del casete y si alguna letra no la entendía la buscaba en Yaguu- todavía no había aparecido Google.
Lagrimeé un poco cuando en la película canta YOUR SONG, una de las mejores, que dijo últimamente dedicó a su madre:
“YOUR ARE SWEETTES EYES I EVER SEEN”
Pero me emocionó cuando el falso cantante imita a Elton John en la canción ROCKET MAN: yo estaba recién llegado al Uruguay y extrañaba a mi esposa y a mis dos hijos, cuando dice:

En la película lagrimee con la cancion TINY DANCER. Un extraño poema de Bernie Taupin, musicalizada y cantada por Elton.Tiene algunas estrofas que aun no he logrado comprender por el surrealismo que portan:

Eso de que una pequeña bailarina baila en mis manos y que vende tikets en la noche para el auditorium. Jesus, libre.
Es dificil de traducir y tocar la magia y sentimiento de la pequeña bailarina.
Pero me decepcionó la versión que hace de una de sus mejores canciones sobre su vida cuando deja la adicción a las drogas, al alcohol y el amante lo abandona cuando descubre a una chica con quien decide cazarse antes de salir del closet: es un matrimonio de conveniencia, ambos dormían en habitaciones separadas. Y luego escribe esta canción

Elton John, our idol of the students of the Pre-University Rubén Batista, that we listened to the American radio station AFRTS and so we were impregnated of the English and American Rock'n'roll when the Cuban radio did not pass any of those songs.
The movie I just saw in Punta Shopping Uruguay disappointed me. The chosen actor, with a nose fruit of plastic surgery, the famous songs of Elton John interpreted badly by the actor that I expected were at least the originals of the singer and written with the prose poems of Bernie Taupin, his eternal collaborator, They left a bitter taste in the mouth.
It's just a display of quirky costumes that always dazzle young people of any age and that were an exaggeration of the clothes that Liberace, the homosexual pianist who died of AIDS, and that Elton John knew about the effect on the crowd.
The first time I heard the voice of Elton John was in the movie TOMMY by The Who. A slender young man appeared, with curly and long mahogany hair, running on his back on bombs that exploded around and singing a song in the background: "Saturday's all Right" by Elton John. I kept the image of that athletic young man thinking that he was Elton himself. He was the singer of The Who, Roger Harry Daltrey.
Then came the song "Daniel" that reminded me of my recently deceased young brother - that I had to get out of the Institute of Neurology at Havana Hospital. It seemed like a homosexual love song but it was directed to a veteran friend who was blinded by the Vietnam War.
From there I get the phrases.
"Lord I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much Oh oh,
Daniel my brother, you are older than me.
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal.
Your eyes have died, but you see more than I.
Daniel, you're a star in the face of the sky.
God I miss Daniel, Ohh, I miss him a lot.
Jesus my brother was like Daniel, I was crying for my dead brother.
And when I arrived in Uruguay I bought a cassette by Elton John with a selection of his best titles and a Walk Man to listen to when work allowed.Then I saw on the cover of the box that Elton John was a young man in pounds, a sad face that he wanted to hide behind Giant glasses. It was not a big disappointment. He was a great singer. He made a fortune selling millions of his albums and on his tours: full house.
I learned all the songs from the cassette and if some lyrics did not understand it I was looking for it in Yaguu - Google had not yet appeared.
I tear a little when in the movie sings YOUR SONG, one of the best ones, which he said lately dedicated to her mother:
"YOUR ARE SWEETTES EYES I EVER SEEN"
But I was moved when the false singer imitates Elton John in the song ROCKET MAN: I was recently arrived in Uruguay and missed my wife and my two children, when he sings:
I MISS THE EARTH SO MUSH I MISS WIFE.
MARS IS NOT THE KIND OF PLACE TO RAICE THE KIDS.

But I was disappointed by the version he makes of one of his best songs about his life when he leaves the drug addiction, the alcohol and the lover leaves him when he discovers a girl with whom he decides to hunt before leaving the closet: it is a marriage of convenience, both slept in separate rooms.
And then he writes this song:
